Traveling With Your Children

In a lot of ways, parents today are extremely lucky when they get behind the wheel of a car with children in tow. This is due, in large part, to the fact that there are so many gadgets and distractions available to keep your child/children busy as you drive. Not only do you now have the peace of mind to concentrate on the road before you, but you don’t have to be distracted by your children as much.

When possible, always try to travel with another adult. This is a great idea because it will free you up to fully focus on the road while the secondary adult keeps an eye on the children. Additionally, having another adult in the vehicle will help out if a child needs something or even if there is an emergency. I cannot tell you how many times I have been driving and seen a parent fully turned around in their vehicle to tend to their child’s needs…while they are driving! As a responsible adult and/or a responsible parent, it is up to us to make sure that our children’s lives are safe while we are traveling.

Prior to getting into a vehicle with children, make sure that the children are safely secured in their car seats and/or seat belts. If they are old enough, ask them if they need or want anything. Explain to them beforehand where you are going and how long you expect to be in the car. They may not remember this, but it is still a good idea to let them know anyway. Prior to even stepping foot in the vehicle, explain to slightly older children the safety rules of traveling in a car. You don’t want to scare a child, but let him or her know that there are certain dangerous things that can happen if they touch certain things or do certain things while an adult is driving. Let them know the proper way to address you if they have any needs while on the trip.

If your child doesn’t feel well or if there is a problem while you are driving, don’t panic. Simply pull your car off to the side of the road or exit the roadway in a calm manner. Remember that when you panic (especially if there are other children in the car), you only cause them to panic more, which creates distraction -something you do not want while driving. Traveling with children doesn’t have to be a pain. In fact, it can be very enjoyable. Talk to your child while driving; communication is always a good idea. However, avoid using your cell phone or playing with the radio too much, etc. Having a child in the car is distraction enough, and you don’t want to add any more distractions into the mix. If there is another adult in the car, simply ask them every now and then to check on the kids to make sure that they are ok. You don’t want to ignore your children, but you don’t want them to be your sole focus while you are driving. Remember, your safe driving should be the main focus here!

Traveling With Your Laptop

Today many people find that taking a trip without their laptop is almost impossible. If you are a writer or researcher then you laptop is a vital tool for your profession.

If you are traveling for your business then being able to say in touch via email is just as crucial.

If you are just going on a vacation then before you leave you need to give some thought to your itinerary and decide if you will really have time to use the laptop before you make the decision to lug it along. If you plan to just check and respond to your email then you may want to just work at an internet café from time to time. If you think you will need to reference some of your files then take them along with you on an external USB storage device.

The odds are higher that your laptop will be stolen while you are traveling than when it is at home or in your office.

So, before and during your trip you need to take some precautions.

Make a full backup of your laptop’s hard drive.
Affix a business card with your cell phone number on it to the bottom of your laptop. Be sure and include your area code.
Consider putting a bright or unique label on your laptop and bag so that you can easily spot it.
Watch closely your laptop (and other items) as they come out of the x-ray belt. Do not get distracted with your own activity of going through the security machine.
Never leave your laptop unattended.
Put your laptop in a different case. One that does not look like a normal laptop case.
Make sure you have secured the laptop before taking a nap in a public place such as an airport terminal, bus or train waiting areas. Place the laptop between your feet or in the chair with you between you and the chair arm. You may want to go so far as to cuff it to your wrist.  There are special laptop locks made for this purpose. These locks can also be used to lock the laptop to a table or bed in the hotel rooms while you are out.
Consider taking an extra battery and an extension cord.

One method of backing up your data is a software product named Lojack. This software can help secure your documents and also help recover your computer if it is stolen.

Another option is to consider This software runs in the background and with your computers webcam takes pictures ever few minutes. This way you can see the person using your computer and they also show their IP address to help you or law enforcement track down your computer.

If traveling by airplane, you need to know that most airlines consider your laptop as your one personal item that you can carry-on during your flight. So, your laptop may have to take the place of your purse, a diaper bag or your one piece of carry-on luggage that is allowed.

A lot of this is just common sense, but when we are in the middle of packing and making all the other arrangements so we can travel, we just don’t take time to stop and think so our common sense can kick in.

Hopefully this has given you some friendly reminders and you will have a safe and hassle free trip.

Traveling on a Budget

Planning to travel but not sure with your budget? Here are some guiltless ways to travel and still have the perfect vacation.

Make a list and check it twice.

Before making travel arrangements, decide on the important things first. Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? How much is your budget? Are you traveling alone, or with a friend? Before anything else, you need to decide on these things to make traveling a lot easier.

Buy tickets in advance.

It pays to book early. Fare tickets are usually cheaper months before the actual departure date. Patience is the key.  You may also want to sign up for free updates on latest deals and offers. However, you must always keep in mind that when booking in advance, you need to be 100% sure of the travel dates because changes could mean extra fees.

Look for bargains and discounts online.

The internet is the best place to scout for great travel deals. Websites and pages such as, TheTravelCouch, and offer travel packages that are reasonably priced.  Websites such as and peruse the web for you in search of the best web tickets for a destination.

Travel in a group.

Traveling in a group allows you to save more money because it means more people are dividing the expenses. Also, group discounts are everywhere. Not only will you have more people chipping in for the cost, but you will also get huge discounts on hotel room rates and tour deals.

Buy at local markets.

When traveling on a budget, you need to remember that food, beverages, toiletries and the more important stuff are always more expensive in hotels. It will save you more money if you buy from the local market (probably even better if you buy these things before the trip). Make a list of the things that you need to buy to avoid overspending and impulse buying.

Talk to the locals.

These people know the place better than anyone else. You can ask them how to get around the area, or even pay them to give you a tour. Their services are a lot cheaper than the hotel’s. What’s the best way to meet locals? Services such as or are a proven way of introducing yourself to someone who is willing to show you around or meet for a meal or a drink.

Sample the local cuisine.

That means eating where the locals eat! Forget tourist traps. Around Asia, street food is king! Hawker stalls mean fantastic flavors, all on a budget. In the Philippines, read up on blogs such as, and for food recommendations.

Traveling on a budget is possible as long as you take the challenge. If you wish to save money, you can’t be too picky. Besides, where’s the fun and adventure in that?

Traveling Around Long Island

When you are getting around Long Island, you will come across different types of roads, like dirt roads and paved roads.

Transportation can be a little troublesome due to the geography and the road system that mostly runs east – west. Traffic jams during certain times of the day are another issue. A lot of people who travel to Long Island would need a car. There are car-for-hire companies on the island. There are limos, too, but they are reserved for the classy visitors.

To avoid unnecessary delays when you get to Long Island, be sure to book a car for hire beforehand. If you are getting access to the island via a ferry and you can take your car with you, then you have no problem. Those traveling to the island via plane should consider renting a car. There are car rental services at the airport, but note of the few restrictions, especially if you are traveling from Manhattan. If you are traveling from Manhattan and you want to get to The Hamptons, you may need to board the Hamptons Jitney. Once you arrive there, you have to find a means of getting around. If you are headed for the Fire Island, it is recommended that you take a cab to avoid parking issues. Then you can enjoy a short ride on a ferry.

Traveling in east – west direction is quite easy because roads usually run that way. However, the same thing cannot be said when traveling north – south. There are only a few roads that cross the island in north – south direction, although once you get familiar with the roads on the island, traveling anywhere can become easy. You may want to check the road map of Long Island to make you more familiar with the road systems.

If you want to get familiar with the geography of the island, it is not that difficult. Basically, you have to note of the four counties, namely, Brooklyn, Queens, Suffolk, and Nassau. However, most people can only account Nassau and Suffolk when they think of Long Island, which is understandable. The other two counties—Brooklyn and Queens—are politically part of New York City. In other words, Long Island would usually refer only to Nassau and Suffolk.
Anyway, if you are planning to drive around the island, note of the morning and evening rush hours. In the morning, people are usually headed for the city, so driving to the urban zones can become a challenge. The opposite is true in the late afternoon and evening, when driving to the east can be troublesome.

There are parkways on the island, which allow vehicles with passenger plates to pass. Parkways give scenic views of the island, and they also allow efficient transportation routes. If you want to avoid traffic congestions, you can drive along parkways, but if your vehicle bears a commercial plate, you cannot choose the parkways as alternate roads. Commercial vehicles can only run along expressways. Visitors should take note of this. If you want to enjoy your tour across the island, avoid the expressways. Visitors on cabs or limousines should better opt for the parkways if they get the chance.

Traveling Through Tuscany

Located in central Italy, Tuscany is one of the most beautiful regions in Italy. Full of rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves and medieval towns, you could spend unlimited time seeing the sites, tasting amazing food and wine, and experiencing all that Tuscany has to offer. Some of the most popular destinations in Tuscany include Florence, Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Lucca and the famous Chianti region. On our first trip to Italy we spent a week in Tuscany, and it was barely even enough time to scratch the surface of this amazing place.

Getting to Tuscany
If you’re flying into Tuscany, the main airport is in Florence, however you can also fly into Pisa. If you are traveling from other parts of Italy, the train is your best option, unless you have already rented a car.
Just like the rest of Italy, Tuscany has an excellent public transport system, and you can get to most main destinations on the train, and smaller towns on buses. This however, can restrict you to only seeing the towns and cities of Tuscany. I found that the best transport option was to hire a car to travel around. Car hire in Italy is fairly cheap, and it gives you the freedom to go where ever you want and truly experience the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It also makes traveling to small towns a lot easier as you don’t have to worry about changing trains and buses, which can be a bit of a hassle. Along with this, driving on the roads with the Italians is quite an experience! To hire a car in Tuscany go to
All main towns and cities in Tuscany offer a wide range of accommodation. Hostels and inns are very affordable, and there are all ranges of hotels available as well. One of the best options however, is to rent a villa or apartment to stay in during your time in Tuscany. This is a great way to experience Tuscan life and it can be very affordable, especially if you are staying for a week or more. We rented a villa in the countryside south of Florence, and it was a fantastic experience. Tuscany is small enough to base yourself in a central location, and do day trips from your villa or apartment. You can also save money on meals by cooking your own food in your kitchen. This will give you an excuse to buy some of Tuscany’s fantastic produce, and shop with the locals. To rent a Tuscan villa or apartment go to
So the best way to travel through Tuscany? I’d have to say hire a car, rent a villa and truly experience this wonderful place. Let yourself fall in love with Tuscany!

Traveling by air

Traveling though is fun is never easy and simple and traveling by air is of no exception.

Traveling by air is often complicating and complex because you will have too many things to bring and yet too limited space for luggage. Often, you will have to run a trip to the pharmacy to buy travel-sized toiletries so that they can be fitted into your luggage bag. You may also have to pack a few times and arrange transportation to the airport.

As there are so many things to be taken care of before the flight, many people take many precautionary steps to ensure they will have all the necessary items and everything goes as planned even if the unplanned and inevitable events occur.

Here are two useful tips which you can take to minimize the occurrence of the inevitable events although it is no guarantee that your flight will be hassle-free and smooth. Meanwhile, these tips will also help to minimize your stresses while travel.

Primarily, you should avoid bringing all your items but the necessary items. It is even better if you are able to travel light and fit all your items into a hand carry. By doing so, you will be able to save time as you need not to check-in your luggage bag.

In addition, you need not to spend time on checking-out your luggage after your flight. By not checking-in your bag, you are also minimizing the risk of your luggage bags being missing or misplaced.

Furthermore, you should be alerted that many airlines no longer serve free meals. Hence, you are encouraged to bring along some snacks and food as you will be charged for their average quality food.

Here, you may either pack the food or snacks from your house or buy them at the airport. Regardless of which methods you take, you should ensure the food will be able to satisfy your hunger. You should always remember that the small snacks will save you from starving as you unlikely to know how long you will be caught in the delays.

Traveling to Mumbai

Everyone has a deep craving to travel by air to their favourite and preferred destination at low cost. This can really happen if you wish to travel to the commercial capital of India i.e. Mumbai. You can easily acquire cheap Mumbai flights from any city of India without any hassles. You just have to book you air tickets well in advance in order to acquire manifold advantages and other facilities. Due to the cut throat competition among the airlines many of them have come up with really discounted airfares to Mumbai so that to enhance their market share in India. This can in fact happen if the airlines offer discounted air tickets along with effective and highly personalized service to its valued passengers.

Mumbai is a wonder to behold. It is a thriving city with so much happening at once. To think I always though New York is busy! It seems that not much has changed in terms of the passion for work since the city was founded as a trading post. Getting into Mumbai particularly is not difficult if you choose one of the cheapest business flights or simply compare cheap flights. The city is practically on steroids and the people seem to go like clockwork. It is really amazing. I have to warn that space will not allow me to provide all the places that you can visit in Mumbai but I will do as much justice as I can.

Marine Drive: I really enjoyed the marine Drive best at night when the street lights came on. It became very evident then why it is called the ‘Queen’s necklace’. It actually sparkles and this ‘necklace’ links the corporate towers of Nariman Point to the residential villas of Malabar Hill along the waterfront. It is truly a sight to behold.

Gateway of India: If I had missed this, I doubt if I would have forgiven myself at all! It was actually constructed as a commemoration of the visit of the King George V and Queen Mary to Delhi for the Delhi Durbar of 1911. Graceful is the best word to describe it and remains so still. I was told by one of my business associates that the very last of the colonial soldiers marched under this magnificent arch to their ships after India secured independence. This explains the sentimental significance it has for the natives of Mumbai.

This can have a very negative effect on the passenger as well. It is the duty of the respective airline to offer cheap Mumbai flights along with proper service. You just have to search the net and you could easily avail cheap air tickets to Mumbai or any other city without any hassles. Official websites of various airlines facilitate smooth online booking of cheap air tickets. You can also obtain cheap air tickets to Mumbai as well by contacting the authorized travel agent.

Traveling With Children

Before children all you had to do was grab a bag and head out the door – traveling was easy.  Well, that ended as soon as your first baby was born.  Before you were responsible your bag, your passport, your comfort, your flights, your information, and no one else’s.  Needless to say, there are a few differences when traveling with children.

While harder, it certainly is not impossible to travel with children, even small children and babies. However, some people still prefer to put off traveling with children until they are old enough to follow instructions, stand for long periods, and keep themselves entertained on long trips.  But even if you wait, and leave children at home while you travel with your spouse, it’s not as easy as pre-children.  If your children are staying away from home you have to pack them as well as yourself.  Even if a sitter is coming to your home you have to take the time to write all the schedules down, possibly plan all the meals, and probably do all the shopping and laundry before you leave town.

Knowledge, preparation and positive attitudes are keys to traveling successfully with children in tow.  Traveling with children is a good time to help them realize that they do not need all their things all of the time. Be sure to include plenty of travel games and toys to keep little ones entertained on long road trips or flights. Prepare for delays, both on road trips and when flying. Make lists, and maybe make more lists about everything involved in traveling – from packing, to boarding a plan. You must be prepared. Taking some practice runs at home will help you and the children be more prepared for the upcoming trip.

There is no reason to put off travel until your children are grown. Take the time to experience the gifts of the world, with your children.  It will be an enriching time for all of you and the memories will last a lifetime.
